GSB 7.0 Standardlösung

Welcome

to the Dutch and German-speaking Division (DGSD)

Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, Suriname and Germany are members of the Dutch- and German-speaking Division (DGSD) of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names – UNGEGN (United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names).

The sessions of the UNGEGN are dedicated to the scientific work of the standardization of geographical names and have been established in order to prepare the United Nations Conferences on the Standardization of Geographical Names held every five years. Whereas the countries are represented and have the right to vote at the UN conferences, UNGEGN functions through geographical and/or linguistic divisions and through working groups. At the UNGEGN sessions no resolutions are adopted, but results of the sessions are formulated by consensus.

The following DGSD members are in charge of official functions within UNGEGN:

◾Dr. Tjeerd Tichelaar is the current DGSD chair
◾Dipl.-Ing. Pier-Giorgio Zaccheddu (DE) is the Convenor of the Working Group on Geographical Names Data Management of UNGEGN (formerly known as Toponymic Data Files and Gazetteers);
◾Dr. Gerhard Rampl (Österreich) is the coordinator for the Toponymic Guidelines of UNGEGN;

All DGSD members are currently actively involved and contributing to Working Groups of UNGEGN. Thus, the DGSD is one of the most active group within the UNGEGN.
