Hinweise zur 3. Ausgabe / Notes to the 3rd Edition

Die 3. Ausgabe des 'Verzeichnisses deutschsprachiger geographischer Namen der Antarktis' /128/ wurde entsprechend den Spezifikationen des Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica (CGA) völlig neu bearbeitet. Die Überarbeitung erfolgte im Auftrag des Ständigen Ausschusses für geographische Namen (StAGN), federführend durch Jörn Sievers, Neu-Isenburg, mit Beiträgen von Karsten Brunk, Rosbach v.d.Höhe und Georg Kleinschmidt, Erzhausen. Das Verzeichnis ist hier als PDF-Datei herunterladbar.
Im Gegensatz zur 1. und 2. Ausgabe enthält die 3. Ausgabe nur noch Namen für Objekte, die im Definitionsgebiet der Antarktis südlich 60°S liegen. Für 413 Nameneinträge - am 08.06.2021 um 1 weiteren neuen Namen in der Version 3.1 ergänzt - wurden die vom CGA vorgegebenen Felder in einer Excel-Tabelle inhaltlich gefüllt. Diese sind

  • der Objekttyp ('Feature type'),
  • die geographischen Koordinaten Breite und Länge ('Latitude', 'Longitude') des topographischen Objekts,
  • die Geländehöhe ('Altitude') des Objekts,
  • das Datum des Beschlusses über die Annahme des Namens ('Date approved'),
  • eine Kommentarspalte ('Comments'), in der die Daten vom Einreichen des Namenvorschlags über die sachliche Überprüfung durch den StAGN bis zum endgültigen Beschluss durch das deutsche Nationalkomitee SCAR/IASC aufgeführt sind,
  • eine Kommentarspalte ('Named for') mit Angaben zu den Namengebern sowie
  • eine Kommentarspalte ('Narrative'), in der eine Orts- und Lagebeschreibung des benannten Objekts und Angaben zu den betreffenden Expeditionen oder anderen Ereignissen gemacht sind.

Außerdem gibt die erste Spalte ('BKG-Nr.') in der PDF-Datei die laufende - interne - Nummer der Bearbeitung des Namens im BKG bzw. im StAGN wieder. Fehlende Nummern sind bedingt durch das Aussondern von Namen, deren Objekte nicht im Definitionsgebiet der Antarktis liegen sowie durch abgelehnte Namenvorschläge. Die dritte Spalte ('BKG-Quelle') verweist auf die Quellennummern, die im Literatur- und Quellenverzeichnis aufgelistet sind.

Notes for the 3rd Edition
The 3rd edition of the 'Index of German-language Antarctic Place Names' /128/ was compiled entirely new with regard to the specifications of the 'Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica' (CGA). The revision was accomplished on behalf of the Ständiger Ausschuss für geographische Namen (StAGN) by Jörn Sievers, Neu-Isenburg, with contributions by Karsten Brunk, Rosbach v.d.Höhe, and Georg Kleinschmidt, Erzhausen. The index is downloadable as a PDF-file.
Compared with the 1st and 2nd editions, the 3rd edition does only list place names which are located in the area of definition of Antarctica south of 60°S. Following the specifications of CGA, for 413 name entries - Version 3.1 updated as of 08-06-2021 by 1 additional new name - the columns of an Excel-chart were filled. The columns are

  • the feature type,
  • the geographic co-ordinates latitude and longitude of the topographic feature,
  • the altitude of the feature,
  • the date of name approval,
  • a comment column ('Comments') documenting the dates of submitting a name proposal, of the factual checking of the submitted data by StAGN, as well as of the final approval by the German National Committee SCAR/IASC,
  • a comment column ('Named for') for annotated facts of the name giver,
  • a comment column ('Narrative') describing the geographic location of the named feature and reporting about the expedition concerned or other relevant incidents.

The first column ('BKG-Nr.') of the PDF-file lists an internal number of the treatment of the place name proposal by BKG/StAGN. Missing numbers are due to the discarding of place names of features which are not located in the area of definition of Antarctica or due to the refusal of name proposals. The third column ('BKG-Quelle') of the PDF-file refers to the source numbers which are listed in the Literature and Source Index.
