The Ständiger Ausschuss für geographische Namen (StAGN) (Permanent Committee on Geographical Names)
is the body responsible for the standardization of geographical names in the German-speaking area.
StAGN is an independent scientific body without sovereign functions to which are affiliated in
particular scientists and experts in practice from Austria, Germany.
Switzerland and other German-speaking regions.
Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Kartographische Ortsnamenkunde (AKO)
The AKO is a coordinating body of all Austrian institutions of the Federal and states government as well
as scientific institutions and cartographic publishing houses dealing with geographical names issues.
The main objective of AKO is to promote the standardization of geographical names in general and the
resolutions of the United Nations regarding this matter.
Nederlandse Taalunie
The Dutch language is spoken in the Netherlands, Belgium (Flemish Region and bilingual Brussels-Capital Region)
and Suriname. The Netherlands and Flanders have worked together on linguistic issues, language policy, language
teaching and literature for many years. In 1980, they confirmed their cooperation in these areas by founding
the Taalunie. Suriname has been an associated member of the Taalunie since 2004.
